There were a few names thrown in the hat but Richie Brains (or Dick Head for short), seemed to stick. We were thinking of band names initially, then the idea of a single entity came up. All in all it took a good 2 years to get the LP together. Afterwards, as they didn’t always find time to link up due to their busy schedules, more work was done remotely online. It was these initial sessions together and the strong ideas that were laid down then that became the foundation of the LP. On one of these sessions we realised we needed an extra room, so Stray and Fixate went off to another studio and kept in touch via FaceTime. All of them flying back and forth between the rooms swapping ideas.

These were some really fun studio sessions to watch. I shared a studio with Fracture at the time and arranged a date for everyone to come down to London. It was always going to be difficult getting everyone together, what with everyone’s personal commitments and geographical location, but the idea of the project appealed to everyone enough to make it work. They liked the idea, so I set about trying to arrange a time for them to all meet up. So I sent them all an email suggesting they got together. I’d been (and have been) releasing great music from all of them, and most have collaborated with each other individually in some form or another, but I felt that there was a common thread in their sounds that would work great as a whole. The idea of getting these guys together came about around 2 years ago. Ok so there’s one of my own tracks in there but its a colab so that’s OK.Ĭheck out the rest of the Astrophonica back catalogue,Īlix Perez - Chimpo - Fixate - Fracture - Om Unit - Sam Binga - Stray Fracture x Sam Binga x Rider Shafique - She Want It Ruff.Rashad - Something Bout The Things You Do.Is this like a top 5? We’re all doing really different stuff but it all fits together nicely. I’m also playing loads of Exit stuff Alix Perez, Stray, Sam Binga etc. He had an EP on my label Astrophonica last year and since then he’s featured more than anyone else in my sets. No seriously, Moresounds from Paris seems to be on fire at the moment and keeps sending me stuff that I just have to play. Moresounds, Moresounds and even more Moresounds. There’s a lot around these tempos at the moment that were never meant to be mixed with each other but that’s what I’m doing and it’s really fun. I’m playing a lot of different genres right now and always searching outside of what everyone else is playing for new stuff I can fit it. How I fit that in totally depends on where and at what time I’m playing.

With these 4 tracks I definitely made a conscious decision to not over produce any of them. It wasn’t something intentional, I just ended up having 4 tracks that really sat well together and myself and Exit had scheduled an EP so that was that. It definitely sits in line with my recent work but it feels a lot more ravey. How does it sit with your last couple of projects? With a brand new EP, Loving Touch, released last week on dBridge’s label Exit Records, we thought it was a good time to have a quick chat. The last few years has seen him really push the boundaries of drum n bass, taking influence from far outside the regular sphere of the genre but keeping to the general tempo range that has always seemed to define the large spectrum of DnB. Pretty simple huh?įirst up, our good friend Fracture - London based Electronic musician and the man behind Astrophonica.

Here’s the first post in a new series for our blog called “up to?” where we talk to DJs and Producers out there in the world and basically see what they are up to. “There’s a lot around these tempos at the moment that were never meant to be mixed with each other but that’s what I’m doing and it’s really fun.”
